AWWU General Manager, J. Brett Jokela, P.E.

Brett Jokela has worked in water resources and civil engineering for public and private entities all across the State of Alaska since 1977. He joined the Utility in 2006 and was named General Manager by Mayor Dan Sullivan in 2013. The General Manager is responsible for the overall operation of AWWU, providing leadership and direction for seven operational divisions.

Customer Service Director, Jayne M. Fritts

Jayne Fritts has worked in the Utility industry for over 25 years. She joined AWWU in the year 2000 working as a projects administrator for Customer Service. She was selected as the Customer Service Division Director in 2012. The Customer Service Division is responsible for the accurate billing, collection, and meter reading for both water and wastewater customer accounts. Additionally the Division manages the backflow, permitting, construction inspection, Utility locates and first emergency dispatch for Anchorage, Eagle River, Girdwood and northern communities.

Administrative Services Director, Alyssa Farrar

Alyssa Farrar has 20 years of experience in municipal administration, initially joining the Utility in 1999.  She was a member of AWWU’s General Manager’s Office for almost 15 years, and served in the City of Wasilla Mayor’s Office for over four years.  She has experience in strategic planning, emergency management, and public relations, and became Director of the Administrative Services Division in 2018.  The Administrative Services Division provides managerial support, such as safety and security, training and development, public affairs, courier services and emergency readiness.  She also manages the Utility’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Pre-Bid Compliance Program.

Steve Nuss has performed civil engineering, project management, and construction management services throughout Alaska since 1998. He joined AWWU in 2004 and became Engineering Division Director in 2016. Engineering is responsible for development and execution of AWWU’s capital program and for system planning.

Information Technology Director, Troy W. Swanson

Troy Swanson has 30 years of experience in the field of Information Technology, initially joining the Utility in 1997. He has served as a technical services manager, program manager, Division Director, and CIO for the Utility and the Municipality of Anchorage. He was most recently appointed the Information Technology Director in 2013. The Information Technology Division provides administration and support for all of AWWU’s computers, network, and application systems.

Troy W. Swanson

Operations & Maintenance Director, Mark A. Corsentino, P.E.

Mark Corsentino joined the Utility as a Civil Engineer II after five years with CH2M HILL as an engineer working on multiple water and sewer projects. He was promoted to Civil Engineer III, Project Management Supervisor in 2010 and then Director of Operations and Maintenance in 2016. With his years of experience in management and supervision, Mark also brings a strong knowledge of the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater capital improvement projects. The O&M Division maintains AWWU’s treatment facilities and repairs all water and sewer piping, as well as its lift stations, and, in addition, is responsible for the Utility’s remote monitoring controls, or Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

David Persinger has worked in the wastewater field in Alaska for 13 years. He joined the Utility in 2006 as an intern in the Engineering Division, where he worked in several different roles until becoming the Treatment Director in 2013. Treatment is responsible for day-to-day operation of the treatment facilities and water distribution system and for maintaining compliance with all state and federal regulations.
