Innovative AWWU Project Wins Green Merit Award
AWWU is proud to receive a Green Project Merit Award from Engineering News-Record for its Ship Creek Water Treatment Facility Heat Exchanger. The project, the first-ever completed by a municipal water system in the nation, draws enough excess heat from Municipal Light & Power's plant to warm 27 million gallons of water every hour. The project is anticipated to save approximately $1.9 million per year by lowering customer water heating costs. Warmer water should also reduce the number of winter waterline breaks due to freeze ups. Read more from project team member R&M Consultants here.
