Who Monitors Your Utility?
One of the nation's best water and wastewater utilities, Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility is regulated by three agencies:
-
Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) is the primary enforcement arm which ensures AWWU complies with all drinking water standards and certifies treatment operators and water treatment facilities.
-
Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) must approve all rates charged to Utility customers. RCA also reviews AWWU's internal costs, operations and management practices. For inquiries or assistance with disputes with AWWU, customers should call 276-6222. If you live outside of Anchorage, call RCA's toll-free hot line, 1-800-390-2782.
-
United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets national public drinking water standards, national water quality standards and discharge permits for wastewater treatment facilities. AWWU meets or exceeds all national drinking and wastewater standards.
