AWWU Environment Information

AWWU has a clear commitment to environmental stewardship. As a principal provider of drinking water to a city of 280,000 people, we are dependent on the continuous supply of clean fresh water from Eklutna Lake, Ship Creek, and the groundwater systems throughout our community. Additionally, we have a responsibility to ensure that wastewater produced by our customers is safely collected, treated, and released back to the environment in a responsible, efficient, and sustainable manner.

We are continually monitoring water production, drinking water quality, compliance with discharge permits, and the effect of our discharges on receiving waters, especially Cook Inlet, home to the Cook Inlet beluga whale. We invite you to explore information about Cook Inlet water quality, drinking water quality, water conservation techniques, and other issues by clicking on the topics on the sidebar on the left side of this screen.
