Projects | Elmore/Huffman Reservoir
UPDATED MAY 19th, 2011
Project Description:
In conjunction with the new Hillside WTM, the design study report proposes a new 5-million gallon (MG) water reservoir south of Huffman Road and east of Elmore Road. The selected site, one of four sites considered, is located at the southeast corner of Elmore Road and Huffman Road.
The reservoir is to be sited at an elevation that will maximize gravity pressure from the Eklutna Water Treatment Facility and eliminate the immediate need for additional pumping. The new reservoir will serve the emergency demands, fire water supply, and operational needs of South and West Anchorage, to include areas west of Elmore Road such as the South Anchorage High School, Turnagain View, Oceanview, Klatt, and the Old Seward Highway and Lake Otis Parkway corridors. The reservoir location meets the following general criteria:
Current Work Schedule:
AWWU's Board of Directors awarded a $6.6 million design-build contract to GMC Contracting, Inc. to design and construct the reservoir. GMC is teaming with Dowl/HKM for site design, and with Natgun for reservoir design and construction. The NTP for design was issued in February 2011.
Construction excavation began May 18th, 2001. Given the limited site area, excavated materials will be removed from the site and stored off-site until reservoir construction is complete. Once reservoir construction is complete, some of the excavated material will be brought back to the site to partially bury the reservoir.
Construction of the concrete
reservoir is expected to begin in early June.
The reservoir construction is expected to be substantially complete
by November 2011. Final landscaping is expected to be competed
in 2012.
