Description

The Sand Lake Area Water and Sewer Improvements Project includes the construction of a backbone sanitary sewer line and backbone water line as part of implementation of AWWU’s Water Master Plan (2005) and AWWU Wastewater Master Plan (2006). Project construction is partially funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, State of Alaska Legislative grants and AWWU. The project is located in an older south Anchorage residential neighborhood off of Sand Lake Road between 80th and 84th Avenues and generally includes Sand Lake Addition #2 Subdivision.

Both the water and sewer mains are important to not only improve basic needs of the immediate neighborhood, but to serve as the backbone for future water and sewer laterals. The proposed water extension is approximately 3,400 linear feet of 8-inch water main that will connect the existing system at Jade and 88th Avenue, follow Jade to 84th Avenue, turn west along 84th Avenue to Sand Lake, then north along Sand Lake to 80th Avenue. Two booster stations may be needed to maintain operating pressure, one at Sand Lake Road and 84th Avenue and one at the corner of Jade Street and 88th Avenue.

The sewer extension includes approximately 2,500 linear feet of pipe that will be constructed beneath 80th Avenue, within the right-of-way, from Sand Lake Road to Sand Lake Canal.
