The AWWU Capital Improvement Program

Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility maintains an active Capital Improvement Program to ensure safe and adequate water and wastewater service is always available to its customers.  Some customer needs, such as the constant need for a quality supply of water, must be forecast years in advance in order to meet community's needs. The Engineering Division's Planning Section deals with a wide spectrum of facility planning issues in the long term, short term and urgent needs assessment.

AWWU maintains a 20-year master plan for both the water and wastewater utilities. Each undergoes a major review approximately every five years.  To help implement these plans, the Utility maintains a six year capital improvement plan and budget forecast. The six year plan is reviewed and revised each year to keep the plan responsive to the Utility's customer needs.  As the construction of a capital improvement projects nears, more detailed customer interaction, engineering planning and design begins. For large projects the planning and design may take several years.  For smaller projects, all design, plans and construction may take place the same year. However, these plans do not take precedent over emergencies and other important issues which may delay some of the planned improvements.

AWWU has developed this Capital Improvement Projects Website to assist its customers. More information about the Utility's Capital Improvement Program will be  available on the Internet as project develop. For more information on the program, please contact:
