Description

Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility (AWWU) has two septage receiving stations that are being evaluated for improvements. One is just west of the intersection of Turpin Street and the Glenn Highway in east Anchorage and the other is on King Street near 92nd Avenue in south Anchorage. Private haulers use the facilities to dispose of waste collected from septic systems and portable outhouses into the sewer system. The stations are fenced and access is controlled. AWWU is evaluating several upgrades to each facility to reduce impacts to adjacent properties, develop highly functioning septage disposal facilities, and reduce maintenance costs.

Upgrades under consideration include a wash down facility for on-site clean up and installation of a system to collect trash/debris before it enters the sewer system. Improvements to site drainage, electrical systems and methods to measure waste volumes will also be evaluated. In addition, an odor control system may be considered for the Turpin Street facility.
